Frequently Asked Questions

How far ahead should I book?

For the best camps and for gorilla permits, twelve to eighteen months is ideal, particularly for July to October and the Australian school holidays. Shorter lead times are sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.

Is a safari suitable for children?

Yes, with the right planning. Some properties and activities have minimum ages, and gorilla trekking requires visitors to be at least fifteen, but plenty of wonderful experiences are open to younger travellers.

How fit do I need to be for gorilla trekking?

Treks can last anywhere from a short walk to several hours on steep, muddy ground at altitude. We match you with a sector and gorilla family that suit your fitness, and porters are available.

How much does a luxury safari cost?

It depends on the destinations, the season and the style of lodge, but a well designed luxury journey is a significant investment. After a conversation about your plans we will prepare an itinerary with clear costs in Australian dollars and tell you exactly what is included.

Is Africa safe?

Most travellers have trouble free journeys, particularly on well organised private safaris. Conditions vary by country and region and can change, so we monitor advice from the Australian Government's Smartraveller service and from our teams on the ground, and we brief you before you travel.

What about tipping?

Tipping is customary for guides, trackers and lodge staff. We provide guidance in your pre departure documents.
